One of the highlights of summer in the Cedar Creek area is the Summer Reading Program.

While our focus is on getting people of all ages to read, the Summer Reading Program offers a lot more than books and it’s FREE!

The Summer Reading Program also includes a lot of activities. Check out our summer calendar of events and save the dates for your favorite programs. Performances and events sure to please all include those by a magician, mad scientist, snake handler, and more. Finally, wrap up the summer fun at the library’s End of Summer Party.

Children and Adults who participate in the Summer Reading Program are eligible for prizes, which are donated from various businesses and individuals. There are five prize groups within the program; ages birth – 3, ages 4 - 6, ages 7 – 9, 10 – 12, and ages 13 – 17, and 18+. Readers must log the number of hours, or the number of books they read to receive an entry ticket in a drawing for a fantastic prize. The more you read the more tickets you will receive. In addition to a grand prize in each division, we will also be giving away movie tickets, books, Medieval Times tickets, coupons for local restaurants, and more.

Sign up for the Summer Reading Program and don’t forget to come by the library to enjoy your summer vacation without having to leave Cedar Creek!

The Summer Reading Program is made available by The Library at Cedar Creek Lake and a donation from the Henderson County United Way, Texas State Library and Archives Commission, and the Institute of Museums and Libraries.

Studies have shown that children who read during the summer generally maintain their reading skills, and that children who see their parents read, or who read with their parents generally have scored higher on standardized tests. Reading increases and improves their comprehension, study skills, vocabulary, and love of Books.
