Adult education is an important part of continuing to grow as a person. The Library at Cedar Creek Lake is a hub for people in the community who want to learn and, for those who wish to teach. Special classes for adults include:
Ever wish you’d finished high school? Need your GED to get that new job or to get back on track with your life? The Library at Cedar Creek Lake provides free GED classes every Tuesday and Thursday from 5 pm – 7 pm.
Participants can get help with any or all of the four subject areas:
All prospective students will be given a pre-test to see where you are currently at in the curriculum.
Most of the volunteers who provide this FREE one-on-one tutoring are retired school teachers so you know you’re getting great help! Over the years, the library has helped numerous adults work towards gaining their GED. Most nights there are approximately10 people here studying towards their GED!
If you prefer to study on your own, The Library at Cedar Creek Lake provides digital access to Learning Express Library. This computer-based program has a GED study/preparation module.
Everyone deserves the opportunity to learn to read. If you know someone who has trouble reading or who can’t read at all, please let them know about our adult literacy (learn to read) classes. We can accommodate people who simply fell through the cracks of the schooling system, those with learning challenges such as dyslexia and people who have suffered a trauma.
These classes are taught by volunteers who used to be teachers so students will receive school-quality tuition.
For communities to grow, they need to be able to communicate. If you would like to improve your English or if you know someone who cannot speak English at all, please contact us at the library. We currently have FREE English As A Second Language classes for people who grew up speaking Spanish. These classes are taught by volunteers and they are FREE!
We have a computer program that can help you produce professional resumes.
The Texas Workforce periodically comes to The Library at Cedar Creek Lake to help people with resume writing and to learn how to use their website to search for a job. Once enrolled with the Texas Workforce you can then use the library’s computers to continue with your job search.
Texas Workforce has also held Job Fairs at the library.
